Morocco is a country of customs and traditions. Here we leave to you some tips or advice that you have to take into account before making your trip
It is normal that we have certain respect when traveling to an unknown place. Unfortunately, there are many prejudices towards Arab culture and Muslims, but from our experience and that of all the people who have traveled with us to Morocco, I can say that it is a very safe country, full of good people who will go out of their way to please you. and make your stay more enjoyable. Everyone who returns from this country completely changes the perception and image they previously had, for the better of course.
Being from another country and another continent, the presence of bacteria or viruses that we are not used to, can make our trip more bitter. Therefore, some precautions should be taken, such as always drinking bottled water, washing your hands well before eating, and taking into account that if we visit nomadic areas of the desert where they do not have resources for good hygiene, the food, and beverages that they offer us with all your generosity, they can give us the odd tummy ache.
It is good to always carry medicines with us to stop diarrhea and vomiting, some analgesic and anti-inflammatory, and as a personal recommendation, carry “absinthe” (a natural antibiotic for the digestive system).
We can also take out travel insurance with health care and repatriation in case of illness.
The currency used in Morocco is the Dirhams (MAD). 10 dirhams have a value of just under one euro, so it is easy to calculate the exchange prices (if something costs 100 dirhams, we will know that it is costing us a little more than 9 €). However, there you will have no problem paying with euros anywhere, but knowing that you will be paying a little more.
You can take the changed money from here, or change it at any airport (but you will have to pay unnecessary commissions). In Morocco you have money exchange establishments in almost all medium-sized cities and it will be cheaper.
In general, in tourist areas, you will be able to speak to them in English or Spanish, but as you go into less touristy areas, the possibilities to English or finally French are reduced. In any case, if you travel with our guides you will have no problem because they will accompany
you at all times and will be able to help you if you need translation.
Logically, it will depend a lot on the area of the country where you move, but in general, the best times to travel are autumn or spring. In any case, it does not hurt to bring something warm for the night even in summer, because there is usually a considerable change in temperature between day and night, especially in high areas and the desert.
They are used to haggling, therefore they will not take it the wrong way and you should not feel bad. For them, it is a simple game and a routine of the trader. In tourist areas, prices are always going to be higher than they should be, but it is precise because they already have that you are going to haggle over the price. However, if you move through less touristy and poorer areas, you will see that the prices are much lower and although you can still haggle, do not try to push too hard because they earn much less.
Being in a country outside the European Union, or in any country in the world, always carry your valid passport with you, it is the only document that will identify you.
It is not that it is impossible to get alcoholic beverages in Morocco, but considering that Muslims are prohibited from it, you will not be able to order a beer in a restaurant or in most hotels (for example), but you can buy it in some supermarkets in the cities medium-large, although at a price considerably more expensive than here.
